|First release||Banjo-Kazooie (1998)|
|Console of origin||N64|
The Banjo-Kazooie universe refers to the Banjo-Kazooie series in reference to its representation within the Super Smash Bros. series of fighting games. The Banjo-Kazooie series is a series of 3D platforming adventure games that follow the antics of a bear named Banjo and a wingull named Kazooie as they try to defeat the evil witch Gruntilda "Grunty" Winkybunion.
In canon Super Smash Bros. titles, the Banjo-Kazooie series has never been properly represented, despite being arguably the most popular of the Nintendo-published games Rare Ltd. created. Oddly, several other Rare games have been properly represented in the forms of items (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark), characters (Donkey Kong Country), or in collectibles (Star Fox Adventures, Donkey Kong Country). This is mainly due to the company being wholly acquired by Microsoft in 2002. According to Masahiro Sakurai, the creator and director of the Super Smash Bros. series, both Banjo and Kazooie and GoldenEye's James Bond were initially planned to appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but were cut due to negotiations between Microsoft and Rare going on at the time.
Canon Representation Edit
As previously stated, the Banjo-Kazooie series has not received any representation in canonical Super Smash Bros. titles.
