Debut Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (2005)

Dr. Kawashima (Japanese: 川島教授 Professor Kawashima) is the host of Nintendo's Brain Age series.

Dr. Kawashima is based directly off the real life neuroscientist Ryuta Kawashima (Japanese: 川島 隆太 Kawashima Ryūta). Kawashima is the author of the book Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain, which details his findings. The book was released in Japan in 2003 and an English translation was released in 2007, a year before Kawashima authored a sequel entitled Train Your Brain More: 60 Days to an Even Better Brain.

Kawashima's book was turned into a handheld device titled "Brain Trainer", which evolved into the Nintendo DS title Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!. Nintendo developed several sequels to Brain Age for the successors to the Nintendo DS.

Kawashima has aided in development of several video games. Aside from Nintendo's Brain Age titles, Kawashima has worked with Namco Bandai on Brain Exercise with Dr. Kawashima for iOS platforms, Body and Brain Connection for the Xbox 360's Kinect peripheral, and with Chimera Entertainment and BBG Entertainment on Train your Brain with Dr. Kawashima for the PC and Mac.
