|System of origin||Wii U|
|Year of debut||2015|
A member of the Inkling (Japanese: インクリング Inkuringu) species appears in Super Smash Bros. Strife as a newcomer fighter. Inklings make up the main population of Inkopolis, and act as the playable characters of Splatoon.
The Inkling reuses voice clips from Splatoon.
The male and female Inklings playable in Super Smash Bros. Strife are the default customizable Inklings from Splatoon. While the species primarily take the form of teenage humans, in actuality, the Inklings are large squids; and use ink to create their human forms.
|Neutral Special Move||Burst Bomb||The Inkling throws a Burst Bomb in an arc, which explodes on contact with a platform, a wall, or another fighter to deal slight damage to those in the vicinity of its explosion.|
|Custom Variants||Suction Bomb||The Burst Bomb is replaced with a Suction Bomb, which deals more damage, but takes a moment to explode after being thrown. Can be stuck to walls and opponents.|
|Burst Raid||Instead of throwing one Burst Bomb, the Inkling instead throws three smaller Burst Bombs that travel further but deal less damage.|
|Breaker Bomb||The Burst Bomb deals no damage normally but will instantly destroy shields.|
|Side Special Move||Splat Roller||The Inkling pulls out a Splat Roller. The player can control in which direction the Inkling runs, but they can not jump and run at a slower speed while they carry it. The Splat Roller deals damage on touch. Using the attack in the air or just tapping the attack button has the Inkling fire a wave of ink a short distance that deals damage.|
|Custom Variants||Inkbrush||The Inkbrush deals less damage on touch, but the Inkling can run at a faster speed. The ink that can be fired from the weapon travels a much further distance.|
|Dynamo Roller||The Inkling's Roller deals much more damage, at the cost of the Inkling travelling at a much slower speed. The ink that can be fired from the weapon does not travel as far, but deals more damage.|
|Carbon Roller||The Inkling's Roller deals less damage than normal, but the Inkling runs slightly faster than normal. It doesn't have the ability to fire ink, and thus can be used normally on the ground and in the air, allowing for horizontal aerial recovery.|
|Up Special Move||Super Jump||The Inkling transforms into its squid form and jumps upwards a high distance before falling back down and transforming into its human form moments before landing.|
|Custom Variants||Kraken Jump||The Inkling transforms into a Kraken during its jump. It deals damage on touch, but does not travel as high.|
|Squid Beakon||The special move turns into a two part attack: the first use has the Inkling throw a Squid Beakon, and the second use has the Inkling jump to it. The Squid Beakon can be destroyed, meaning the Inkling would have to throw another before being able to jump.|
|Ink Strike||Sacrificing the ability to recover, the Inkling instead summons an Ink Strike on its position, meteor smashing all those (including the user) in the way of the Ink Strike's path.|
|Down Special Move||Seeker||The Inkling launches a Seeker forwards, which explodes after travelling a set distance or when it hits an opponent or a wall.|
|Custom Variants||Over Seeker||The Seeker is no longer affected by gravity, and will travel forwards through the ground. It does not travel as far.|
|Quick Seeker||The Seeker travels further and at a faster speed but deals less damage.|
|Large Seeker||The Seeker is slightly larger, and no longer explodes on contact, instead trapping opponents that touch it in its path. It explodes after a shorter distance, but deals more damage.|
|Final Smash||Killer Wail||The Inkling places a Killer Wail that fires a blast of sound waves that pushes away all opponents in its path. The angle at which the sound wave is fired can be determined by the user.|
|Up taunt||Pumps its Splattershot up in the air as it yells happily.|
|Side taunt||Transforms into its squid form and pops into a puddle before jumping up and down a few times.|
|Down taunt||Places its hand on its hip and aimlessly shakes its Splattershot around; similarly to one of its Splatoon pre-release artworks.|
On-Screen Appearance Edit
The Inkling lands on the stage as its squid form before transforming back into its human-like form.
Victory Fanfare Edit
The Inkling's victory fanfare is the theme played at the end of a multiplayer match. Unlike most victory fanfares, the song loops until the screen is exited.
Victory Poses Edit
- Swims around in a pool of ink before jumping out, transforming from squid form, and firing ink randomly,
- Poses with their Splattershot pointed in the air, accidentally fires it, and looks up at the sky surprised.
- Crashes down into the ground as a squid before looking around ready for combat.
- Are they kids, or are they squids? The answer: both! The Inklings have the ability to transform from a human form into a small little squid form. In their human forms, the Inklings compete in Turf War events, where they cover the ground in colourful ink, and compete to be fresher than any other Inkling. How fresh are you?
- [U] Splatoon
- The Inklings have a large amount of weapons at their disposal, all based around the idea of spreading ink. The Inkling fighter uses a lot of different weapons, more so than any single Inkling is legally able to use in Turf Wars. From Burst Bombs and Splat Rollers, to the Seeker and Killer Wail, the Inkling has many options to attack.
- [U] Splatoon
- The Killer Wail's a powerful tool in any Inkling's arsenal. According to Sheldon, the Killer Wail fires a cone of sonic energy that instantly splats enemy Inklings. In Smash, the Killer Wail pushes away all the fighters in its path to give a huge lead in battle.
