Pirate Ship is a downloadable stage in Super Smash Bros. Strife, returning from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Though not based directly on an area from any Zelda game, the stage is inspired by The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and features many elements and a near-identical art style with it.
Stage Layout[]
The stage consists of three platforms: the deck of the pirate ship, and two platforms attached to the centre mast. The deck of the ship is uneven, with a dip in the centre of the platform. On the left side of the ship - the bow - is an outcropping that leads over the hull.
Players can swim in the water surrounding the ship, though swimming in front and touching the hull will result in an OHKO, as the fighter will be spiked downwards through the water.
The stage has many hazards, and some of these change the layout of the stage in various ways:
- The King of Red Lions, Link's ship from The Wind Waker, may appear on the right side of the stage. He acts as another platform for fighters to stand on, though he will eventually travel off to the right of the stage and disappear.
- The ship may run into a large rock, dealing damage to those that are caught in-between the rock and the ship. The ship will become shipwrecked for a moment, and the fight will inevitably be focused on the large flat rock as the ship remains in an upright position.
Hazards[]
As previously mentioned, the Pirate Ship stage suffers from having many hazards that can damage the player. Alongside the ship becoming shipwrecked, several other events may occur.
A catapult is located under the ground at the front of the ship, and may come up to the surface at times. Though it deals no damage to fighters,s it does deal extremely high knockback to those standing on it when it goes off. It can KO fighters even at low percentages.
The ship may travel past an enemy lookout, which can be seen in the background. As it travels by, the enemy manning the lookout will fire bombs onto the stage, which deal damage and knockback to those in their blast radii.
Finally, a cyclone may appear and lift the ship high into the sky, eliminating the ability to swim in the water surrounding the ship. If the King of Red Lions is on-screen when the ship is lifted upwards, it will be raised at a slower speed, forcing players to get on the main platform or risk being KO'd. After a short while of floating in the air, the ship will fall down back towards the Great Sea, with fighters experiencing lowered gravity as it falls.
