The Wario universe refers to both the WarioWare and Wario Land series - collectively known as the Wario series - in reference to their representation within the Super Smash Bros. series of fighting games. The Wario series primarily follows Mario's antagonistic, greedy counterpart, Wario, as he attempts to find ways to get rich. The WarioWare series follows Wario and a group of his friends in Diamond City as they create 'microgames' (short minigames generally lasting up to 10 seconds); while the Wario Land series is a 2D platforming series akin to the Super Mario series.

In the Super Smash Bros. series, the WarioWare series appears to have a much larger influence on the Wario universe, as seen by its respective stages, tracks, trophies, and even Wario's moveset. The Wario universe is a sub-universe of the Mario universe; its other sub-universes include the Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Wrecking Crew universes.

Canon Content[]

Super Smash Bros.[]

One of Mario's palette swaps gives him yellow clothing with purple overalls and green shoes, referencing the appearance of Wario. This appears in all subsequent titles.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

There are two Wario-related trophies in Super Smash Bros. Melee, both classified under the Super Mario universe.

Wario himself was one of the most requested characters to appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but series director and creator Masahiro Sakurai passed him up, stating he didn't want to add too many Mario characters (as Peach and Bowser had already been added alongside Mario and Luigi). Additionally, while there were several clone characters created due to extra development time, Sakurai decided against making Wario a clone of Mario.

Trophy[]
	Wario	An old acquaintance of Mario's. His failure to seize Mario's castle has fueled Wario's desire for a palace of his own. Wario has herculean strength and can do things that even Mario can't imitate. His unexpected skills include a talent with items and the ability to assume many roles, among them a snowman, a zombie, and a bat.
	Bucket	In Mario and Wario, an excellent game released only in Japan, this hidden item gets placed on Mario's head, rendering him sightless. The fairy Wanda then guides the helpless Mario past numerous obstacles to the goal. The M on the bucket becomes a W when turned upside down, signifying that Mario has fallen under Wario's wicked control.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Playable Characters[]
	Wario	Wario is Mario's greedy, cunning rival and the anti-hero of the Wario series. Despite being a heavyweight character, Wario possesses fast aerial mobility, granting him a good recovery and punish game. His Wario Waft gives him the ultimate trump card, as it deals a hefty amount of damage and knockback. Wario can bear his biker outfit from the WarioWare series or his classic overalls from the Mario series.
Assist Trophy[]
	Kat and Ana	Kat and Ana, friends of Wario and employees of WarioWare, Inc., appear as an Assist Trophy summon. They slash across the stage in an X shape a number of times.
Stages[]
	WarioWare, Inc.	WarioWare, Inc. is the sole stage representation of the Wario series in Brawl. A unique feature of the stage are the Microgames, which grant bonuses to the fighters that successfully complete them. Microgames include sidestepping the way of arrows (Arrow Space), attacking party poppers (Blowin' Up!), jumping an earthquake (Crack Down), dodging high-speed cars (Crazy Cars), among others.

	WarioWare, Inc.	"WarioWare, Inc." is a mashup of the main menu and title screen themes from WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, remixed in a style reminiscent of 70's disco. When this song plays on the WarioWare, Inc. stage, it will be periodically interrupted by background music for the various Microgames.
	WarioWare, Inc. Medley	"WarioWare, Inc. Medley" is a mashup of various songs from WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! including the introduction to 9-Volt's microgames, Jimmy T.'s boss minigame theme, Dibble and Spitz's microgames theme, the introduction to Dr. Crygor's microgames, the introduction to Wario's second set of microgames, the news fanfare, and the main menu theme. It plays on the WarioWare, Inc. stage.
	Ashley's Song	"Ashley's Song" is a remix of the song that plays in the background of Ashley's microgames in WarioWare: Touched!. The song plays on the WarioWare, Inc. stage. Both English and Japanese versions of the song appear in the game (the latter under the name of "Ashley's Song (JP)"); and the English version has had some lyrics altered slightly.

	Mike's Song	"Mike's Song" is a remix of the song that plays in the background of Mike's microgames in WarioWare: Touched!. The song plays on the WarioWare, Inc. stage once its CD has been collected. Both English and Japanese versions of the song appear in the game (the latter under the name of "Mike's Song (JP)"; which also must be unlocked through collection of a CD); though the English version has had some lyrics altered slightly.

	Mona Pizza's Song	"Mona Pizza's Song" is a remix of the song that plays in the background of Mona's microgames in WarioWare: Twisted!. The song plays on the WarioWare, Inc. stage. Both English and Japanese versions of the song appear in the game (the latter under the name of "Mona Pizza's Song (JP)"); though the English version has had some lyrics altered, and both versions have had the chorus of "Yum! Yum! Yum!" removed.

Trophies[]
	Wario	Mario's self-styled rival. He loves money and gross humor. He often sets out in search of hidden treasure. His bold moves come from his superhuman strength and are completely different from Mario's moves. Aside from adventuring, he's also the chairman of game maker WarioWare, Inc. Its franchise game is WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$.
	Wario-Man	Wario's Final Smash. He chomps on his favorite food, garlic, and transforms into Wario-Man! His mobility goes way up. His attack power doesn't change much, but he scampers like a cockroach, using moves like crazy! He can jump over buildings and use midair attacks to fly. Oh, and he doesn't flinch from attacks. Think twice about bringing out his motorcycle at this time...
	Kat & Ana	Twin female ninjas who attend Diamond City Kindergarten. Kat, the older of the two, has pink hair, while the younger Ana has orange hair. Both of the girls are still very young, but they're also very respectful and address their superiors as budding ninjas should. Kat and Ana have a soft spot for living things. Kat loves cats, and Ana is attracted to flowers.
	Wario Bike	A motorcycle specially designed for Wario by Dr. Crygor, an employee at WarioWare, Inc. This monster bike has an amazing 5,000cc, 4-stroke, 350HP engine capable of pushing it down the road at up to 217 miles per hour. Of course, this road hog is also a fuel hog and gets less than 5 miles to the gallon. Getting the pegs in the right position for Wario's short legs was difficult.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]

Playable Characters[]
	Wario	Wario returns from Brawl, but this time as an unlockable character. Wario's amazing aerial mobility has been slightly toned down and the wheels of his bike can no longer be used as projectiles. His overall color scheme is brighter, now more akin to how he appears in the WarioWare series.
Assist Trophies[]
	Kat & Ana	Kat & Ana return as an Assist Trophy character from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. They act identically to their appearance in the aforementioned series. However, they now sport their design from Game & Wario.
	Ashley	Ashley is a young witch and employee at WarioWare, Inc. As an Assist Trophy, she conjures up a cloud with an area of effect. Any enemies caught in the cloud will move slowly and take damage; a variety of other random effects can also occur, such as characters becoming invisible and food damaging fighters instead of healing them.
Stages[]
	Returning Stages: WarioWare, Inc.	WarioWare, Inc. returns from Brawl. The stage itself is near-identical to its appearance in Brawl, albeit with adjusted ledges. The stage is unlocked alongside Wario.
	Gamer	Gamer is 9-Volt's minigame in Game & Wario. The stage takes place on 9-Volt's desk with books acting as platforms. Occasionally, 9-Volt's mother, 5-Volt, will enter the room and look for fighters. Her line of sight is represented by a beam of light, which fighters can escape by hiding behind furniture. If 5-Volt spots a fighter, she will get mad and launch them. Fake-outs can also appear.
Music[]
	WarioWare, Inc.	The "WarioWare, Inc." song from Brawl, unchanged. Like in Brawl, in the 3DS version of the game it plays on the returning WarioWare, Inc. stage and will be periodically interrupted during microgames. The song also appears in the Wii U version, where it plays on the Gamer stage.
	WarioWare, Inc. Medley	The "WarioWare, Inc. Medley" song from Brawl, unchanged. It plays on the Gamer stage in the Wii U version.
	Ashley's Song	Both the Japanese and English versions of "Ashley's Song" as remixed for Brawl return in both versions of the game. It plays on the Gamer stage in the Wii U version, and the English version (in North America and PAL regions; Japanese version in Japan) on the WarioWare, Inc. stage in the 3DS version.

	Ashley's Song (JP) Ver. 2	"Ashley's Song (JP) Ver. 2" is a militaristic march remix of Ashley's Song. It plays on the Gamer stage in the Wii U version. Interestingly, it is only available in the Japanese version of the game.
	Ruins (Wario Land: Shake It!)	"Ruins (Wario Land: Shake It!)", known in PAL regions as "Ruins (Wario Land: The Shake Dimension)", is a direct rip of the Stonecarving City background music from the aforementioned game. It plays on the Gamer stage in the Wii U version, and has the distinction of being the first song from the Wario Land series to appear on a stage in the Super Smash Bros. series.
	Gamer	"Gamer" is a direct rip of the background ambience that plays during the minigame of the same name from Game & Wario. It plays on the Gamer stage in the Wii U version. When 5-Volt appears on the stage while this track is playing, a distinct musical cue will play.
Trophies[]
	Wario	A living embodiment of gross, this villain hates Mario and loves money. He claims to have known Mario since childhood, but who can tell if that's true? In Smash Bros., he's a seriously agile heavyweight fighter. He can store up his trademark Wario Waft for explosive results. Did I mention he's gross?
	Wario	If someone who hated Mario tried to draw an ugly version of him, it'd probably end up looking just like Wario. The greedy villain claims they used to be childhood friends, though... In this game, he's a heavy fighter with heavy-hitting attacks. The longer you go without using his Wario Waft move, the more explosive it'll be when you..."let it out".
	Wario	With his Chomp special, Wario can wolf down almost anything! Hold the button, and he'll keep his mouth open. Also, if you gobble up healing items, they'll work better! When using his Wario Bike side special, you can jump off, pick it up, and throw it. If you take one thing away from this, it's JUMP OFF. Don't ride off the stage.

	Wario Bike	A ridiculously powerful motorcycle designed for Wario by Dr. Crygor, this mean machine sports wide handles and raised pedals to accommodate Wario's unique dimensions. Summoned into battle as his side special attack, even Wario can have trouble keeping this thing upright at times.
	Wario Bike	A motorbike made for Wario by genius scientist Dr. Crygor. At 2.7m in length, with wide handles and raised pedals, it's perfect for Wario! The bike will appear when you use Wario's side special move, but you'd better know how to do it properly or you might end up flipping over, and that would just be embarrassing...
	Kat and Ana	These ninja twin sisters of the Iga Clan attend Diamond City Kindergarten. The high-tech katanas they carry, made by Dr. Crygor, are like an extension of their own bodies. They strike at incredible speed with devastating attacks. By the way, Kat is the one with pink hair.
	Kat and Ana	Telling these twin sisters apart is easy: Kat's hair is pink; Ana's is orange. They both go to Diamond City Kindergarten, love nature, and train as ninjas with the Iga clan. In this game, they deliver an impressive joint cross-slash attack with the gigantic high-tech swords Dr. Crygor made them.
	Ashley	This young witch-in-training lives in a haunted mansion in Diamond City. She's shy and quick to anger, but secretly she wants more friends. When she appears on the battlefield, she will summon a damaging zone of darkness around her. The zone causes a variety of effects, none of them good.
	Ashley	Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion? You'd better learn her name, 'cause she's Aa-ashley! This little witch loves cursing people, but also wants more friends. Talk about wanting to have your cake and eat it, too... In battle, she conjures a zone of darkness that both damages and shrinks other fighters!
	Wario-Man	With just a little nibble of garlic, humble everyman Wario transforms into the hero of justice, Wario-Man! He's...still not really all that strong, but he does get quite a bit faster, and he can launch foes farther too. And like any good hero, he has the ability to fly...by spamming attacks in midair. Just like they all do it, right?

Playable Character[]
	Wario	Wario returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Strife. Like in previous titles, Wario's alternate costumes allow him to wear either his WarioWare biker outfit or Super Mario overalls. He is primarily identical to his Super Smash Bros. 4 appearance, but has a new dash attack in his Wario Land shoulder charge.
